History

  College of Education; the Department of Educational Technology was founded in 1997, the Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership was founded in 2000, and the Graduate Institute of Educational Psychology and Counseling was founded in 2002.
 
 
  Because curriculum design and instruction are the foundations of teacher education and crucial to in-service teachers’ professional development, the Research Center for Curriculum and Instruction was founded in 2003 to increase the comprehensiveness of the College of Education’s academic research.
 
 
  Dr. Ping-Huang Huang, the former Dean of the College of Education, and Dr. Po-Chang Chen, the former director, completed two projects assigned by the Ministry of Education: (1) to enhance teachers’ professional development regarding social studies curriculum design and instruction, and (2) to increase expert teacher supervision and evaluation of instruction for first- to ninth-grade students. 
 
 
  In 2006, the Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction was initiated. Dr. Hsun-Fung Kao, the former Dean of the College of Education, led our institute faculty, including Drs. Ya-Fang Chang, Huey-Fang Ju, and Pei-Fen Song in developing objectives and curricula. Moreover, aligned with our university’s goal of global education, our institute also incorporated discussions on global education problems into curricula for enhancing the field of curriculum and instruction and supporting student education.
 
 
  In 2007, the Ministry of Education of Taiwan approved the founding of the Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction. Our institute then began to enroll students in the master’s program. Dr. Chia-Cheng Yu served as our institute’s first Chairperson. He further enhanced our institute’s courses and refined its rules. Our institute originally enrolled 10 master’s students a year. The higher education program was evaluated and approved in 2009. In 2012, the professional master’s program was established. The professional master’s program initially enrolled 12 students a year. Currently, our institute enrolls 22 master’s students a year.
